Copeland Park & Bussey Building

Copeland Park and Bussey Building serve the cultural heart of Peckham. Located 150m from Peckham Rye Station, it’s a haven for creatives and startups while also boasting a diverse community of bars, restaurants and cinemas.

The

beginnings

Through local campaigning, Copeland Park was saved from being turned into a tram depot by the council and TfL in 2009. This collection of historic industrial buildings now houses a vast and diverse range of commercial and creative enterprises.

Revitalising the

heart of Peckham

The site hosts sixty artists’ studios, a theatre, churches and a mosque, a gym, a yoga studio, a recording studio and radio station, shops and workshops, a summer rooftop cinema, as well as a number of restaurants, bars and event spaces. Emphasis on community and inclusive growth is paramount, and Copeland Park works with local groups to retain the area’s cultural diversity and vitality.

Saved from

development

In 2006 we worked with local community group Peckham Vision and other residents to save the area from becoming a tram depot. This was achieved by showing that the original neglected factory buildings could be used to encourage new businesses in Peckham, creating a destination point for South East London.

A creative

community

Now the site has become recognised as Peckham’s creative quarter, housing hundreds of makers and entrepreneurs from a variety of disciplines. As well as accommodating a vibrant creative artistic community, we also house a range of faith groups, music and entertainment venues and restaurants.

Copeland Park with its growing legacy and the Bussey Building with its popularity as an arts hub will continue to provide a home to these organisations and many others.
